What is the Center of Excellence Designation?
Wise Regional Health System announced that it has been named an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence®. The ASMBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.
This designation recognizes the expertise of our experienced surgeons and our commitment to quality programs and services, says Steve Summers, CEO, Wise Regional Health System. My Bariatric Solutions has built a reputation for providing outstanding and compassionate care.

The Bariatric Surgery program at Wise Regional Health System offers obese patients an education-based weight loss surgery program that caters to their specific needs. The team of specialists include a bariatric nurse coordinator, registered dietitian, an exercise physiologist and multiple psychologists who provide each patient with expert care before and after weight loss surgery.
To earn a Center of Excellence designation, the program underwent a series of site inspections during which all aspects of the program’s surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes was collected.
The ASMBS BSCOE program has 12 requirements for bariatric surgery programs based in freestanding outpatient facilities, which are also known as ambulatory surgery centers or surgicenters. Any outpatient facility that provides bariatric surgery care and is located more than one mile from an affiliated hospital is considered freestanding, and must be individually designated by the BSCOE program. Get more details about each of the requirements and additional information regarding the designation.
Centers are fully approved for the BSCOE designation when they comply with the freestanding requirements that are in effect when they submit their applications for designation. A comprehensive site inspection is conducted to verify compliance.

Obesity has become a significant national health issue, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting that 66 percent of all US adults are overweight or obese. Morbid obesity is closely correlated with a number of serious conditions that severely undermine the health of overweight patients, including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
In obtaining the Center of Excellence designation, we demonstrated that we hold our program to the highest standards in the industry and were recognized for our dedication to helping patients achieve their lifestyle and weight loss goals.
Wise Regional Health System’s experienced surgeons are well-versed in both laparoscopic (minimally-invasive) and open surgeries, and perform the latest, most-advanced bariatric surgery procedures, including LAP-BAND®,roux-en-y gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgeries.
