Intragastric balloon procedure

The intragastric balloon procedure is an innovative approach that can jump-start long-term results for our patients. This non-surgical procedure can provide you with non-permanent, and non-surgical techniques for weight loss.

Are you a candidate for an intragastric balloon?

The team at My Bariatric Solutions works with you through an extensive screening process to determine if this particular procedure is right for you.

  • 27-32 BMI
  • Patients with no active ulcer disease
  • Patients with no large hernia
  • Patients with no prior gastric surgery

About the intragastric balloon procedure

The procedure is quite simple. During your office visit, you’ll swallow a capsule that’s much like a vitamin, but is attached to a micro-catheter with a deflated balloon. Once that capsule dissolves, the balloon is inflated with air, filling space in the stomach and the micro-catheter is removed quickly and safely.

How does the intragastric balloon work

The balloon procedure is a revolutionary procedure that simply fills the space in your stomach, so you eat less. A series of three balloons are inserted over a 4-6 week period in succession to gradually decrease the size of your stomach and aid in appetite suppression. After six months, all balloons are removed in a safe, simple and outpatient procedure. Coupled with our program for long-term nutrition and health and wellness from our caregivers, the Obalon procedure is a highly successful alternative with minimal downtime.

What are the side effects of an intragastric balloon

The procedure is a safe procedure and the reported side effects include mild abdominal pain and nausea, which are typically resolved within the first two weeks. However, patients must take daily acid-blocking medicines and the balloons must be removed after six months.

Health benefits from surgery

Choosing to have weight loss surgery is a huge, and sometimes difficult, decision. But the near instantaneous health advantages are hard to deny. With weight loss surgery most patients see amazing results including:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improvement of high cholesterol levels
  • Potential reversal of Type-2 diabetes
  • Improvement or cessation of life-threatening sleep apnea
  • Reduction in symptoms of acid reflux
  • Less risk of heart attack, stroke, and cancer
  • Increased potential for conception by helping to increase fertility levels in both parents

Your life reimagined

The health benefits of weight loss surgery alone can be a game changer but redefining what it means to live large brings happiness on an entirely different level. We want our patients to stop dreaming big and provide them weight loss solutions that will give them the confidence and ability to do the things they’ve never been able to do before or return to activities from the past.

Through your journey, we help you learn to recognize and cope with past issues that lead to overeating but provide an individualized program with support groups, psychological counseling services and post-surgical health, wellness and nutrition plans that help you learn how to live a new and vibrant lifestyle.
