A revisional bariatric surgery is performed to repair, restore, or improve the effectiveness of a previous bariatric procedure. Our surgeons are experienced at conversions and revisions.

The sleeve gastrectomy has become the most prevalent bariatric surgery performed worldwide and has evolved with advanced technology and technique over the last twenty years. Surgeons have mastered the art of creating the perfectly sized stomach, but unfortunately, that took several years to complete.

Patients that had the sleeve as a first stage to another bariatric procedure or stand-alone procedure with a bougie larger than a 38Fr (the device used to create the size of the sleeve) may be eligible for a re-sleeve. Failure to lose greater than 50% excess body weight, weight regain, non-resolution of co-morbid conditions are just a few reasons a person may want to consider a re-sleeve.

The revised sleeve gastrectomy (re-sleeve) is a procedure that reduces the size of a dilated or surgically large sleeve. To be considered for a revision, a patient’s sleeve gastrectomy operative report and an upper gastrointestinal series (UGI or x-ray of the sleeve) will be required. Expected operating room time is less than with the original procedure and original laparoscopic incision sites will be reused if possible.Only your surgeon can help you decide what type of revision is best for you.
