Bariatric Surgery Services
Dr. Scott Stowers, Medical Director and Bariatric Surgeon, offers several bariatric surgery options: LAP-BAND® System surgery, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery, Gastric Sleeve surgery, as well as Revisional Surgery including LAP-BAND to Gastric Sleeve. These weight loss surgeries utilize restrictive techniques, which limit the amount of food the stomach can hold, and/or malabsorptive techniques, which inhibit absorption of calories. Our team will work with you to determine whether you are a candidate for obesity surgery and, if you are, provide you with the information necessary so that you can choose the weight loss surgery that best meets your needs.
Orbera™ Intragastric Balloon
The gastric balloon procedure is a non-invasive alternative for weight loss surgery. The device used is a small silicon balloon that is inflated to reduce the amount of food your stomach can hold at any time. This intragastric procedure is designed to remain for six months and does not result in any permanent surgical alteration to your digestive tract.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric Sleeve surgery, or Sleeve Gastrectomy, is currently, the most performed weight loss surgery in the United States. It is a restrictive procedure that involves removal of part of the stomach. The size of the stomach is therefore reduced, which limits the amount of food a patient can eat. The small intestine remains intact, which minimizes nutritional deficiencies.
Patients in the DFW Metroplex and Southern Oklahoma can receive bariatric surgery at My Bariatric Solutions, including Gastric Sleeve surgery. Our team will provide you with the information necessary so that you can choose the weight loss surgery that best meets your needs.
LAP-BAND® System Surgery
LAP-BAND® System surgery, or adjustable gastric banding, is a laparoscopic procedure in which an adjustable gastric band is placed around the stomach, thereby reducing its size. The band is adjustable and removable, and neither the stomach nor the intestines are surgically altered. LAP-BAND® System surgery may be appropriate for patients who are concerned about the risks associated with other bariatric surgery options.
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery involves using a stapler to create a small stomach pouch at the top of the stomach, then it is directly connected to the middle portion of the small intestine (jejunum) bypassing the larger portion of the stomach and the upper portion of the small intestine (duodenum). Since the procedure is both restrictive and malabsorptive, it is highly effective in helping patients achieve weight loss as well as appetite control.
A revisional bariatric surgery is performed to repair, restore or improve the effectiveness of a previous bariatric procedure. Our surgeons are experienced at conversions and revisions. Only your surgeon can help you decide what type of revision is best for you.
